An Independent Property and Casualty Adjuster is licensed by the
state which requires successful completion of a rigorous state
authorized course followed by a written State Exam in most States.
They are also required to take ongoing continuous education
courses to maintain their license.
The title typically used for this adjuster is known as an “IA” for the
Independent Adjuster in the insurance industry. They are typically
self employed and contract their services through an Independent
Adjusting Firm who has contracts with various Insurance
Companies to handle the claims filed by a policy holder on the
Insurance Companies behalf. The IA is paid a percentage of the
claim that is assigned to them by the IA firm for which they are
working.
The duties of the IA include:
•
Contacting the insured and setting an appointment for an
inspection
•
Inspecting the property for the claimed damage
•
Preparing a detailed estimate of damage which includes
photo documentation of the claimed damage
•
Filing all required documentation to the IA Firm for the
claim disposition
Adjusting Solutions works with Independent Adjusters through our
contacts with IA firms and we help with their training through our
educational partner American International Technical Institute.
The classes that we utilize are:
•
Practical Adjusting/Scoping
•

Many Roofing firms and Restoration Companies utilize these
courses as well as Adjusters.
